Thoughts Random

I don't know why, but Da is in my thoughts all the time this week. I hear his voice, see his face, even smell him.

Maybe it's 'cos I'm getting up so early each morning (TOO early for a musician!) to drive KateNap to her placement in Nenagh. It reminds me of when Da would get up an hour before me when as a wee teenager I had an engagement with the pipe band. He would make sure I had a good breakfast, my shoes were shined, and my buckles were sparkling!

I got to hold and feed a two month old wee fella last night. I miss that. Even the crying. (Thanks P. (the P))

The upside of not being busy with gigs is that one gets to spend Friday night sitting and laughing on the couch with the entire family watching TV and taking the piss out of each other.

It's so hard to watch a friend look you in the face and lie. To himself.

It's so good to sit with a(different)friend, drink cans and talk shite!

If I was younger I'd move to Australia or Canadia!

I hope, when I'm 87, that my mind is as sharp as Ma's is now. (She'll be 87 soon)

I've had some of the best advice I've ever had from friends I've never met.

Yes, going back to the gym, at almost 51, can make a difference to your body, and your mind.

And yes, I love you all! :¬)

  4. Family times are the best! I have many memories of times with my family, both as a kid and as an adult. I'm so glad you have these 'quiet' times to spend with all your girls! (And such fond memories of your da.)

Canadia is MUCH better than Australia... fewer poisonous things here!!! And of course, you'd have to live in the centre, where I am, and open that pub so it could be my 'local'. I'd love to have a singin' barman around the corner. :-)

You're my most favourite Irishman and I love you too, Map. xoxo ♥

  6. Aye, my wee jovial leprechaun pal, I was thinking Littlehampton, Shortstown, Tinyville and perhaps a quick swatch at Smallerton.

Have your good lady pack up a few gammon pieces, rub down the oul top hat and put a shine on your orange box, the train leaves the station at 4, we don't wannae be late again.

  7. Well now, the thing is, there was a time when all the good looking ladies were for throwing their knickers on the stage in appreciation of my wee voice and not my wee legs. It got to the point where your man big Tommy Jones on holiday from that Wales place was green with the envy of it all. I remember himself sitting their listening to me as I played the bejazus out of Dublin town hall on a sultry Tuesday night. Fair cooking up a storm I was, singing out a little ditty that I wrote on the tour bus called 'Delilah' which was named after the auld lady from the steamie across by the high flats on Limerick Road. Lovely woman so, never batted an eyelid at the state of me jockeys and the stubborn stains I so often ingratiated her shop counter with.

The next thing I know oul Tommy has released his own version and has the ladies queing up to shower him with the lingerie, the dirty gimmick-stealing-divil. Afore you know your arse fae your elbow oul big Tommy has all these gigs lined up across there in the grandness of Amerikay and I'm back playing the Ploughmans Arms in Tipperary and all I'm getting thrown my way is punches, copper coinage and of course projectile vomiting from the front row. Damn that Womens Guild coach party and the oul Gold Label specials!

Am I bitter though? Oul Tommy can no buy the black pints or nip out for a bottle of ginger and a poke of chips in glitzy LA. Naw, I have me health, some of my teeth, but sadly not a lot left of the hair, although if I spend a bit of time in front of the mirror I can just about tuck the beginning of a comb-over behind my good ear.

I have none of the riches of your man Tommy, but I do have a long line of friends who put a lovely long cool pint on the bar whenever I walk in. I have the loving family about me, I have memories aplenty, a big pal across the water and a pair of Pon's frillies to wipe my red nose upon. What more could a wee man want, apart fae a bit more height in the auld leg department?

    Pint?

  10. Either half the guys at my gym are over forty, or there's a bunch of youngsters looking well rough.

Either ways I'm with you on the benefits of being a gym bunny.
